Welcome to Barcelona,
¿De donde eres?

'Welcome to Barcelona' presents the Latin American community of Barcelona within their apartment representing the different types of immigrants present in the city.

For many Latin Americans Spain is the entry point into Europe towards greater work opportunities and financial gain. As of 2020 3.1 million Latin Americans reside in Spain or hold a Spanish citizenship. That’s roughly just over 6% of the country’s population with Barcelona being one of the main draws for immigrants.

Accommodation in the city during the pandemic has been difficult. The pandemic has shown housing and income inequality for immigrants. A new rent cap law failed to pass and rents have been rising steadily: with Catalonia's residents spending 56.5% of their income on rent according to a report conducted by Fotocasa.

Clown Doctors healing through joy
The Red Nose organisation in Austria uses the clown as a tool to heal the spirit of those who are confined to spaces not of their own choosing, eg dementia wards, refugee camps, elderly homes, and people in crisis.

The Clown's work is to improve emotional well-being, give greater social inclusion and create more supportive environments for people who are ‘in need of joy’ and claim a right to art and humour.

These photos are of a clown training session in Vienna, where clown from across Europe gathered to learn how to best entertain people with varying forms of dimentia.

Panic on the streets of Vienna

'Panic on the streets of Vienna' is a series that follows the May 1st Labour Day protests that took place in the Austrian capital in 2021.

Throughout the day protestors, which were split into different groups of anti-fascists, anarchists, socialists, communists etc, marched from the outskirts of the city toward its nucleus, where many armed police were waiting. Eventually, a fight broke out and the police started to swing their batons at the crowd to maintain control. Several were injured as well as arrested.

Covering the event for Metropole Magazine, an English publication in Vienna, I took pictures and portraits of both police and protestor, as well as the onlookers who watched the streets from their apartments.
