Hermandad

'Hermanadad' is a series of photographs that documents the summer and autumn of 6 cousins from a Spanish family as they move through the country visiting their other family members in Barcelona, Blanes, and Madrid. Aged 17-23 these young women are as close are they are all unique, each traveling a different path in life and moving on to pursue their own ideas of what their lives should be.

At the core of these young women’s relationships is the familial matriarch, Nenee, the shared grandmother of all 6 cousins. She ties together the story of not only the cousins but the idea of a matriarchal family in general.

This age group is a very transformative time. You are growing into who you are and yet there still lingers a carefree innocence of youth. Heartbreaks happen, you may not get what you think you might want, and thoughts of ‘getting through’ to the next stage in life are coalescing, but your friends and family are near, with free time to waste away with you. These relationships may not last forever, but their impact will.

These photographs represent not only the early years of these young women but the importance of family, support, and a world before the ‘real world’. This series invites the viewer to see these women take their last steps as truly ‘young’ and reminisce about their own ‘lost world’ of youth.

Family Europa

The 'Family Europa' project is a working progress. As I travel and meet families from across Europe I take pictures of them. Whether it is sisters in Germany, cousins in Spain, or a father and son in the UK.

This project is meant to show the cohesive importance of family and identity across the many differing cultures within Europe - be it Catalan or Czech

This has been ongoing for several years and continues to allow me to engage with many different people across many different countries, and touch their homes, hearts, and communities.

As it is an ongoing project many different cameras have been used to take the different portraits.
